Global hospitality leader Accor has announced a major strategic franchise agreement that will see five upscale properties operating under the Verdi Hotels platform join the rapidly expanding Handwritten Collection brand. Scheduled to take effect in November 2026, the partnership marks a significant milestone for both international hospitality groups, bringing together independent hotel character with the robust distribution, marketing, and loyalty ecosystems of a worldwide hospitality powerhouse.
Under the terms of the new agreement, five established Verdi hotels located across Malta, Portugal, and Tunisia will transition into the Handwritten Collection portfolio. Furthermore, the strategic roadmap outlines ambitious plans for future expansion, with two additional properties currently slated to join the brand pipeline in Hungary and the Czech Republic.
Verdi Hotels was originally launched in 2024 by International Hotels Investments (IHI) plc as a distinct, dedicated management platform operating within the upscale hospitality segment. Designed to function entirely independently from the world-renowned Corinthia brand—which remains firmly positioned in the ultra-luxury sector—Verdi was created to capture a dynamic and growing market of travelers seeking upscale contemporary accommodation. Through this newly forged collaboration with Accor, Verdi’s dedicated management platform is poised to leverage Accor’s extensive global distribution network, targeted marketing channels, and powerful loyalty programs. Industry analysts note that this integration will significantly bolster the operational performance and market reach of the Verdi properties, driving long-term value for owners and stakeholders alike.
Launched in 2023, Accor’s Handwritten Collection was specifically conceived to curate and bring together a portfolio of characterful, independent hotels defined by their unique personalities and the genuine warmth of their hosts. In a relatively short span, the brand has experienced remarkable global momentum. Today, the collection encompasses more than 50 curated properties spanning 22 countries, supported by a robust global pipeline of 58 additional hotels currently in development. By combining the unmistakable individuality and charm of independent hospitality with the immense scale, technological infrastructure, and growth platform of Accor, the Handwritten Collection continues to redefine upscale lodging for modern travelers.

Simon Naudi, CEO of Corinthia Group, expressed deep enthusiasm regarding the new venture, emphasizing the strategic clarity of the collaboration. He noted that while the organization’s dedication to expanding the global footprint of the flagship Corinthia brand remains entirely undiminished and independent, the simultaneous development of their second brand, Verdi, will now receive a powerful acceleration. By tapping into Accor’s vast international marketing reach and the established prestige of the Handwritten Collection, Verdi is positioned for accelerated international visibility and success.
Echoing these sentiments, Paul Pisani, President of Verdi Hotels, highlighted the growth potential inherent in the partnership. He shared that the organization looks forward to the relationship, which is expected to deliver immediate strategic value to existing Verdi properties while opening exciting avenues to establish the brand in new and dynamic international destinations.
From Accor’s perspective, the partnership represents a crucial step in the group’s overarching development strategy across Europe and North Africa. Philippe Bijaoui, Chief Development Officer for Premium, Midscale, and Economy brands at Accor in Europe and North Africa, pointed out that aligning the operational strengths of the Verdi Hotels management platform with Accor’s comprehensive loyalty and distribution ecosystem will unlock unprecedented opportunities. Bijaoui emphasized that the collaboration is designed to accelerate growth mutually and generate sustainable, long-term value for all parties involved.
The initial wave of Verdi Hotels properties scheduled to transition into the Handwritten Collection portfolio features a carefully selected mix of waterfront, resort, and urban lifestyle destinations.

Among the properties joining the collection is Verdi Gżira Promenade in Malta. Perfectly situated along the vibrant Marsamxett Harbour waterfront, the hotel occupies a prime position along the lively Gżira seafront promenade and adjacent shopping district. Positioned within convenient reach of Malta’s primary commercial and leisure hubs, the property offers an ideal, accessible base for both corporate travelers and vacationers seeking a dynamic coastal environment.
Also located in Malta is Verdi St. George’s Bay Marina, situated in the bustling heart of St. Julian’s. Enjoying a prominent waterfront setting overlooking one of the island’s most celebrated bays, the hotel places guests mere steps away from vibrant dining, entertainment, and commercial districts while maintaining direct physical access to the scenic Mediterranean coastline.
Rounding out the Maltese additions is Verdi Dragonara, formerly known as the Vivaldi Hotel. Overlooking the scenic Dragonara headland toward the open sea, this property occupies a tranquil niche where the coastline transitions into rugged rock formations and the daily pace slows down. Located just far enough beyond the busiest thoroughfares of St. Julian’s to offer a calmer, more relaxed atmosphere, Verdi Dragonara keeps guests conveniently close to the town’s premier dining, leisure, and business addresses, effectively writing a fresh chapter for the Verdi brand in Malta.
Expanding the footprint beyond the Mediterranean island nation, Verdi Tunis Beach Resort in Tunisia joins the collection as a premier coastal retreat. Nestled quietly along the shores of the Côtes de Carthage, the resort offers immediate access to the Mediterranean coastline while keeping guests within comfortable reach of the Tunisian capital’s rich cultural landmarks and bustling commercial centers. The property successfully bridges the gap between classic leisure resort amenities and cultural exploration.

Finally, Verdi Santarém in Portugal brings a rich historical dimension to the partnership. Situated in the ancient city of Santarém, located north of Lisbon, the hotel serves as an ideal gateway for travelers eager to explore Portugal’s picturesque Ribatejo region. Known widely for its profound cultural heritage, enduring local traditions, and seamless connectivity to broader Portuguese destinations, the property exemplifies the independent character that defines the Handwritten Collection.
As the hospitality industry moves toward November 2026 and the formal integration of these properties, both Accor and Verdi Hotels remain focused on executing a seamless transition that honors the distinct identity of each hotel while maximizing the commercial and operational advantages of a global hospitality network.
