Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour has announced the appointment of Peta Ruiter as its new general manager, bringing a wealth of international leadership experience to the luxury New Zealand property. Ruiter steps into the role following the departure of her predecessor, Reto Borer, who has relocated to Australia to pursue new professional opportunities within the region.

Ruiter brings more than 25 years of extensive hospitality industry experience to her new post at the prominent Auckland waterfront hotel. The vast majority of her distinguished career has been spent building a formidable reputation across the Asia-Pacific region, most notably through a two-decade tenure with global hospitality giant Hilton. Over the course of her extensive career, she has developed deep expertise in luxury and upper-upscale hotel operations, brand development, strategic management, and pre-opening execution across multiple international markets.

Prior to taking the helm at Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour, Ruiter honed her leadership skills in several high-profile senior executive roles at key properties across the Asia-Pacific portfolio. Her impressive professional background includes holding prominent senior leadership positions at notable international properties such as Conrad Seoul, Hilton Tokyo Odaiba, and Hilton Pattaya. Each of these dynamic assignments required sophisticated operational oversight, team leadership, and a steadfast commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences in highly competitive metropolitan markets.

Most recently, Ruiter served as the general manager of DoubleTree by Hilton Seoul Pangyo Hotel & Residences. In that demanding role, she was entrusted with overseeing the comprehensive property opening and directing all initial operations from the ground up. Successfully launching a combined hotel and residences complex requires intricate coordination across various operational departments, financial planning, stakeholder management, and establishing rigorous service standards right from the inception. Her hands-on experience in bringing a major mixed-use hospitality project to life equips her well for leading Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour into its next chapter of operational excellence and guest satisfaction.

The leadership transition sees Ruiter succeeding Reto Borer, who previously guided the Sofitel property through its own operational milestones before his recent professional relocation across the Tasman Sea to Australia. Under Borer’s leadership, the hotel maintained its strong positioning within Auckland’s competitive luxury accommodation sector, known for its distinct blend of French elegance and local New Zealand hospitality situated along the vibrant Viaduct Harbour waterfront.

As Ruiter assumes her new responsibilities in Auckland, she will oversee the day-to-day operations of the luxury hotel, working closely with the management team to elevate guest offerings, strengthen community and industry partnerships, and build upon the property’s established reputation. Her arrival marks a significant new chapter for the prominent Auckland landmark, drawing on her extensive multi-property background and proven capability in managing complex hospitality environments across the wider Asia-Pacific region.
